Spreewald Lübbenau

If you are looking for a day trip from Berlin and yearning for some nature time, Spreewald Lübbenau is one of the best places to visit especially during the summers. Situated in the intense greenery in the district of Brandenburg, Germany, it is one of the beautiful places to have some relaxing time in the nature.

Lübbenau is famous for it’s canals, boat trips and kayaking and also has some cafes, ice cream shops, pickle shops which are mostly run by the locals.

In short, it is a beautiful getaway from the busy urban lives.

How to get there?

Spreewald Lübbenau is located around 80 kms south east from Berlin and it takes approximately 1 hour to reach there by public transport.

We started from Berlin, Alexander Platz around 9.00 AM. Being a group of 5 people we preferred buying a Brandenburg-Berlin group ticket which costed us 33€ and we could return back to Berlin with the same ticket on same day.

After getting down at Lübbenau station, it was a 15 mins walk which took us to the Spreestraße in the town where we started our journey into the water. It was mesmerizing to see the houses and the beautiful gardens around them.

Things to do

Once you reach there, there are multiple ways you can explore the town. If you are a group, you can go on a guided tour, get individual boats or explore the canals on your own with the kayaking boats. The guided tours range from 1 to 4 hours with some time between to have some food. If you prefer to kayak, the boats can be rented from the same place.

We took a 4 hour long guided tour where there were around 10 people on the boat and a guide who was mostly speaking in German. Even though some of us were not fluent in our German language skills, we could understand some of his jokes and stories.

The boat stopped at one of the islands for approximately 1 hour for lunch. The restaurant was run by the locals like many others in that area. The food was delicious and we could not resist taking a pic.

Here are some photos while we were enjoying our tour through the canals.

After finishing the boat tour, we went to Schloss(german word for Palace) Lübbenau. It is again a 5 mins walk from the center of town. The schloss is a beautiful building which is converted into a hotel and has a huge park surrounding it. There are few canals crossing the park and old bridges going over those canals.

After wandering around the park, we sat down at a quiet corner of the park and spent some time chat chatting. Since it was summer time, there were kids playing around and the place was full of people jogging, playing with kids and pets.

Then we finally moved towards the old town market to explore the shops and some cafes. It was a small lane with cafes across the street and the aroma of cakes, coffee was so inviting. We couldn’t resist getting into one of them and try some local cakes and coffee. Unfortunately, we were busy eating and having coffee that we forgot to click any pictures.

Here are some views from old town.

Finally, around 6.00 PM, we started walking back towards the train station and that’s how we ended the trip to this serene place.
